  • Paramount Considers actresses for female lead

    Baywatch Movie

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 11 (UPI) — Seven known actresses are being considered to take the singular female lead in Paramount’s upcoming feature film revival of Baywatch.
With Seth Gordon directing and Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson already recruited, Deadline reports the female role up for grabs may go to either Alexandra Daddario, Ashley Benson, Nina Dobrev, Alexandra Shipp, Shelley Hennig, Bianca Santos or Denyse Tontz.
The outlet reports this group of women is not exhaustive, and Paramount may consider other actresses before production starts in 2016.

All the listed actresses have considerable backgrounds in popular films and TV shows. Daddario last shared the big screen with Johnson in the summer disaster flick San Andreas, playing the Rock’s daughter in the film. She also has appeared in Percy Jackson movies and the first season of True Detective.

Benson is known for her high-profile spot on Pretty Little Liars as well as her role in Elvis & Nixon. She also starred in Spring Breakers in 2012. Dobrev is famed for her Vampire Diaries role.

Shipp’s most recent screen appearance took place in the wildly popular Straight Outta Compton when she played Kimberly Woodruff, the wife of rapper Ice Cube. Screenrant reports she will also play Storm in 2016’s X-Men:Apocalypse.
Actress Santos made appearances in Ouija as well as The Duff while Hennig appears on Teen Wolf. Tontz is a TV actress as well, currently working on the Nickelodeon network’s Big Time Rush.
The upcoming Baywatch adaption is written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift with Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman producing.

Bevy Of Actresses Test For ‘Baywatch’ Lead; Dwayne Johnson & Zac Efron Star

EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures is ready to dive in with its long-gestating movie transfer of the global hit TV series Baywatch. It already set Seth Gordon to direct and Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron to play the male leads. Now, they’ve set a short list of actresses who will test for the female lead. Here are the names I hear: Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas, Percy Jackson), Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars, Elvis & Nixon), Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries), Alexandra Shipp (Straight Outta Compton, X-Men Apocalypse), Shelley Hennig (Teen Wolf), Bianca Santos (The Duff) and Denyse Tontz (Big Time Rush).

Now, it’s possible they will expand the search, and it’s also possible some of these young actresses will play other roles in the film, but we’ll know soon as they lock in for an early 2016 production start.

In the film, a hotshot former Olympian butts heads with the leader of an elite team of lifeguards. Damian Shannon & Mark Swift wrote the latest draft. Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman are producing. Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions will also produce in some capacity

Zac Efron to star in Baywatch movie

Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron will pull on Baywatch’s famous red trunks and head for the Pacific in a big screen take on the cheesy 90s TV show, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The new version is expected to be an R-rated comedy in the vein of the 21 Jump Street films, which have proven a critical and commercial success by revisiting the long-running 80s show about police officers going undercover at US high schools. Horrible Bosses’ Seth Gordon has signed on to direct.

Johnson took to Twitter to welcome Efron to the cast and paint a picture of the new movie’s tone, which he described as “big, fun and RATED R”. The R rating is an approximate equivalent to the 15 certificate in the UK.

The film will take the form of a buddy comedy in which Johnson’s straight-laced lifeguard (Johnson) is forced to unite with a youthful rule-breaking newcomer (Efron) when the beach they both love faces destruction courtesy of the avaricious attentions of a nefarious oil tycoon.

Efron rose to fame in the High School Musical movies, but has since proven his comedy chops in 2014’s Bad Neighbours as a frat house brat who plagues the lives of a young married couple (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne). Johnson brings global megastar status to the project, having become one of the top earning stars in Hollywood in recent years thanks to the success of the Fast and Furious movies and this summer’s big budget disaster movie San Andreas.

The original Baywatch show ran for 12 years between 1989 and 2001, spawning spin-offs such as Baywatch Hawaii and Baywatch Nights. There has been talk of a movie for many years, but no film previously made it to the production stage.

It is not clear if original stars such as David Hasselhoff and Pamela Andersonwill take a role in the big screen version, but it would be no surprise to see them enjoying cameos. Johnny Depp and Richard Grieco, the original stars of 21 Jump Street, have appeared in the first and second film versions respectively.

Seth Gordon In Talks To Direct ‘Baywatch’ Movie

For fans who can’t wait to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson running seductively across the beach in swim trunks à la David Hasselhoff — have we got some good news for you. It seems the film adaption of “Baywatch,” which will star Johnson, is closer to becoming a reported Thursday that Seth Gordon is currently in talks to direct the movie. Gordon has previously helmed the comedies “Horrible Bosses” and “Identity Thief.”

Last October, Johnson announced his involvement in the movie version of the 1990s TV show “Baywatch.”
“Rumors are true… we’re making #BAYWATCH the movie,” he wrote on Instagram. “Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach.”
Johnson’s production company, Seven Bucks Productions, is also involved in producing the film.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the “Baywatch” film will center on a “by-the-book and very serious lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon.”

The magazine says the film will be a comedy. This differs from the original TV drama, which was unintentionally, though unforgettably, funny.

Paramount Moves Forward With ‘Baywatch’ Movie

Dwayne Johnson is loosely attached to star, and Sean Anders and John Morris (‘Horrible Bosses 2’) are attached to direct.

Montecito Pictures is producing along with Beau Flynn. Tripp Vinson is executive producing. Hiram Garcia, who is Johnson’s producing partner, will serve in some producing capacity.

Johnson has long been rumored to head up a Baywatch movie, and the oft-shirtless star would seem a perfect fit for the action film that takes place along the perilous shores of Santa Monica. In fact, the Fast & Furious star is no stranger to showing off his abs as he did in the titular role in Hercules, which opened in July.

Paramount has been trying to mount a Baywatch movie for years and has begun to ramp up its efforts. A number of previous writers have taken a crack at the script including Jeremy Garelick and Peter Tolan. At one point the action was set to revolve around a series of shark attacks that led the Baywatch team to investigate a drug-smuggling operation. It is unclear what Malen’s take will be for the latest version.

Malen has become an in-demand writer after his 2011 Blacklist script Bastards became a hot comedy property. Montecito will produce that film, and Alcon will finance. Malen also wrote the sequel to Bad Teacher for Sony, with Cameron Diaz attached to star.

Johnson, who recently shot the action film San Andreas for producer Flynn as well as Fast & Furious 7, is repped by WME, manager Dany Garcia of The Garcia Companies and attorneys Bianca Levin and Harold Brown.

Malen is handled by Verve and DMG Entertainment.

Anders and Morris, whose writing credits include Horrible Bosses 2, are represented by Mosaic and attorney Todd Rubenstein.

    Paramount declined to comment

Baywatch Movie Moves Ahead with the Rock

By admin, on October 3rd, 2014, under Baywatch Movie

    Baywatch Movie

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not afraid to show off his glistening abs. If you have ‘em, flaunt ‘em, right? He did it a lot in the recent ‘Hercules‘ movie and in Michael Bay‘s ‘Pain & Gain,’ and he’s about to break out those puppies once again (and, probably, for a lot longer) in Paramount’s upcoming ‘Baywatch‘ movie.

A ‘Baywatch’ movie has been in development for some time, and the last we heard on the matter was that ‘SNL‘ vet Bill Hader was said to be attached, but that report was quickly debunked. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson is loosely attached to star as someone with “beach patrol duties,” while ‘Horrible Bosses 2‘ directors Sean Anders and John Morris are ready to helm the TV-to-movie adaptation.

On the creative side, ‘Bad Teacher 2′ writer Justin Malen has come aboard to rewrite the script.

The ‘Baywatch’ movie has long been in development with many different writers trying their hand at the story. As THR mentions, one treatment envisioned a series of shark attacks leading the Baywatch team to a drug-smuggling operation. Though, the condition of the current draft, in addition to Malen’s upcoming rewrites, is unclear.

As Johnson is coming off production on disaster flick ‘San Andreas’ and ‘Fast and Furious 7,’ a ‘Baywatch’ movie seems right up his alley. He certainly seems to have the personality for it, and we bet his fans would love to see him running in slow motion across the beach without a shirt to weigh him down.
