The Cage

Sean tries to stop a nefarious local “shark tour” provider from putting tourists in danger.

While watching over the Ironman Triathlon, JD and Sean must perform a rescue of two divers who have come face to face with a tiger shark. The reason the shark is so close in land is that BLAKE, a nefarious “shark tour” provider, had been dumping chum in the water. Sean, of course, is livid and becomes even more so when locals tell him not to interfere. Sean confronts Blake face to face, but Blake is not intimidated by Sean and even threatens him back. Unbeknownst to Sean, Kekoa and JD have continued their affair. They have, in fact, ramped it up to the next level, even though both know that what they are doing is dangerous and not in the best interests of the team.

Meanwhile, Jason is having problems with tourist AL RAYMOND. Raymond is a good enough guy, but he wants so desperately to impress his son NOAH that he keeps getting in Jason’s way. To make things worse for Al, all of his attempts end in embarrassing failure. Al at first irritates Jason, but Max tells him how he misses his own father, who had done similar things. Jason hears him and understands. Later, Al sees a surfboard sticking up in the water. Jason is not on duty yet. Al springs to the rescue but finds that he is not adequately trained. Jason, just arriving, sees what’s happening and brings Al to shore. Al is mortified, but JD tells him he is responsible for saving a life. He lets Al’s son know it, too, and father and son are reconciled.

Sean, Kekoa and JD go to Brian to discuss what has been happening with the sharks. Being a kama aina, Brian knows how important the shark is to local legend. He brings Sean to visit his father, BUFFALO, who agrees with Sean not to interfere with nature-it has a way of taking care of itself. Buffalo then asks Kekoa and JD when they plan to get married. They realize they are busted. Remembering the problems he had with JD and Jessie, Sean loses his cool. Brian hopes that Sean will heed the word of his father, but fears that he will not.

The next day, Blake has nabbed a tiger shark, but it isn’t the one that wounded the tourist. Sean tries to tell the crowd, but Blake uses this opportunity to try to drum up even more business. In anger, Blake’s assistant quits on the spot. But, to Sean’s dismay, he sees Blake ride off with several tourists for a shark hunt anyway. When he tries to follow him, he sees that Blake has damaged his ignition and the scarab is useless. He calls Brian, JD and Kekoa, who rush to help him. They chase after the boat.

On the boat, Blake lowers the tourists into the water. He enthusiastically starts putting in the chum, but trips, hits the winch holding the cage (causing it to drop to the bottom of the ocean), and then falls into the water himself. He starts swimming after his boat, ig-noring the warnings of JD and Sean. Sean tries to use the anchor to bring the cage up, but it won’t catch. He knows one of them will have to go down. JD and Kekoa get into a fight over who will do it, proving Sean’s point that the team can’t have romantic entanglements. He goes down himself while JD and Kekoa go to Blake’s boat to try to divert the sharks by putting chum in the water. Blake, still refusing help, is attacked by the sharks and killed. Sean is able to attach the anchor and, using the winch, the cage and the people inside are pulled to safety.

Once back on shore, Sean tells JD he must choose between Kekoa and the team. JD chooses to work for Brian instead. Sean is disappointed, but then Brian tells him he needs to trust his friends. Sean “gets it” and makes up with Kekoa and JD.
