Craig and Mitch are in Craig’s new car on the way to work when they nearly get into an accident in order to avoid a black cat. Craig, ever superstitious, now thinks his day is going to be “jinxed.” Moments later, the car dies amid sputters and smoke. Then a hardball from an over-the-line game crashes into his windshield. Now Craig knows his fears are founded! But there is something else different about Craig. He doesn’t seem to be well – and it can’t all be because of his divorce.
Manny shows up at Baywatch. He wants to talk to April, but she keeps avoiding him. She is not ready to admit to him that their relationship is over and that she is now in love with Craig.
” Craig’s bad luck continues: he and Mitch rescue a 300-pound man, Bernie, and his bubble-headed girlfriend. Mitch gets the girl, while Craig is almost flattened by the man. In the process of rescuing Bernie, Craig, feeling week, loses consciousness. Mitch rescues Craig and brings him to the surface. Back at headquarters, they discuss Craig’s divorce and how difficult it is. While they are there, Manny approaches April again. She ducks him, still afraid of confessing the truth.
April and Mitch discuss the changes in Craig. Both notice that he is really behaving strangely. Mitch suggests to Craig that the two of them go paddleboarding. Once they are away from the shore, Craig drops the bombshell: he has lymphoma, a form of cancer. But he is determined to beat it. Mitch and Craig paddle out into the ocean and get caught in a fog. They are lost. Craig tries to sneak a chocolate bar, but Mitch catches him, and in the ensuing scuffle it falls into the water. A shark starts circling them. Then, a freighter comes chugging by and destroys Craig’s boat. He is forced to share Mitch’s. Craig is knocked out.
Manny finally corners April. He confesses that he is engaged to another girl. Relieved, April confesses she is in love with someone else, too. They decide to remain friends. Everyone at headquarters notice that Mitch and Craig have been gone for a long time. April, Cody, and JD organize a search.
Mitch hears a seagull overhead and kicks Craig awake. Of course, when Craig looks up, the sea gull deposits a splat right between Craig’s eyes. They then seek shelter in a cave – only to discover it is inhabited by a big bear, who chases them out. They dive into the water and swim around a jetty, but land on a military rifle range. A multitude of Navy men surrounds them, aiming their weapons at the two.
JD, Cody and Jessie enter the triathlon. The race is intense. But JD and Cody are so intent on screwing each other up that they both wind up racing right off the course, bickering all the way. When they get back on track, both trip and fall. As they struggle for the finish line, Jessie pushes her way between the two of them. She has beaten them! Celebrating Jessie’s victory, the two men start betting who can drink the most bottles of water. Jessie wisely decides to let boys be boys.
Later, Craig confesses his condition to April. She doesn’t care. She still loves him and wants to spend the rest of her life with him. They kiss passionately.
