April tells Neely that Mitch wants to see her. With an attitude, Neely says that if Mitch needs her, she’ll be in the workout room. Moments later, Hobie, on the weight machine, sits up rubbing his neck — he’s tweaked a muscle. Neely volunteers to massage it out of him, just as Mitch enters and catches the two in a very compromising position. He takes Neely to the side and scolds her on her inappropriate behavior. Neely sees JD and Newmie about to enter and lays it on thick, crying and carrying on about how hard she’s trying, how Mitch isn’t giving her a chance, etc. As she exits, JD and Newman voice their concern about Neely. Frustrated, Mitch leaves grumbling that Neely’s a great actress.
Hobie and Manny study the bulletin board outside HQ announcing the Long Beach to Catalina Sea-Doo race. They talk about entering and who’s gonna beat who.
Still out to get Mitch, Neely sneaks into Mitch’s office and changes something on his clipboard. When Alex enters, Neely complains about being stuck in the worst tower again. In fact, she’s had it three times this past week. She tells Alex that Mitch is making it clear that he doesn’t want her working at Baywatch any longer.
On duty, Manny sees a victim struggling in the surf near the pier. He quickly grabs his can, sprints across the hardpack and dives into the waves. He reaches the victim and begins swimming him in, just as a powerful wave crashes down on them and throws them against the piling. Manny breaks a lifeguarding rule and puts his body between the victim and the piling. From the next tower over, April rushes in for backup. She takes the boy from Manny, then yells for assistance. On the beach, they strap Manny to a backboard, put on a C-collar and rush him to Santa Monica General.
In the hospital waiting room, everyone anxiously awaits news on Manny’s condition. The doctor finally emerges to tell them that Manny has sustained injuries to his spinal cord and that he may have permanent damage … Manny may be paralyzed.
Back at Headquarters, Neely hands Alex a formal “hostile work environment” complaint against Mitch. Alex confronts Mitch. He denies everything, says she’s been setting him up, trying to get even for the called off marriage. Alex listens, but the evidence is there, she’s going to have to file the complaint with the Chief.
On the beach, Neely goes in for a routine rescue and gets whacked in the eye by a flailing fist. It leaves a huge bruise. Unfortunately, Mitch chooses this time to confront her about the charges. Their discussion gets heated just as Alex pulls up in a truck. Neely runs over to her and tells her that Mitch hit her. Mitch is speechless, unable to defend himself.
Back at the hospital, the news is bad. Manny will have permanent damage — he will never walk again. Manny’s taking it very hard, refusing to see any of his friends, including April, who’s been waiting for hours to visit.
Neely decides Alex has sided with Mitch and retaliates by spiking Alex’s coffee, leaving her stumbling and muttering incoherent phrases. JD and Newman find her, help her to a chair and watch as a bottle of pills spill from her purse.
At the start of the Catalina Sea-Doo race, Newman, JD and Hobie are ready at the line. April zooms up, informs them she is racing for Manny, and with sheer determination in her eye, wins the race!
Back at HQ, Alex has recovered from the medication and is now on a quest to find Neely. This has gotten personal! As she marches across the sand to Neely’s tower, she gets a following of curious onlookers. By the time she arrives, a small crowd has gathered to experience Alex’s wrath. The short conversation ends with Alex decking Neely square in the jaw!
