The pressure on the Baywatch sailing team to win the annual lifeguard regatta becomes more intense when Neely reveals her personal stake in the outcome. Meanwhile, Mitch’s adoption of Joey is threatened when she discovers she has maternal grandparents… who now want to take custody of her.
Stephanie is recruiting lifeguards to participate in the annual lifeguard sailing regatta, where they will compete against South Bay. Everyone signs on–including Neely, much to CJ’s chagrin. However, Neely makes it perfectly clear the first day of sailing practice that her goal is not to have a good time or play games, but to win. The other Baywatch lifeguards are taken aback by Neely’s intensity, but soon discover that the leader of the South Bay sailing team, lifeguard lieutenant Kurt Daniels, was Neely’s old boyfriend–before he dumped her. Now, Neely wants nothing more than to get back at him, and as a result, she and Kurt make a side bet. If Baywatch wins, Kurt will be Neely’s slave for a day. If South Bay wins, it’s Neely who has to put on the maid uniform.
Everything is going smoothly for Mitch’s adoption of Joey, until Ryan McBride shows up at Mitch’s door with some disturbing news. Joey is not an orphan at all, but has grandparents. They just learned they had a granddaughter, and are flying out to see Joey and take her back with them. Now Mitch must make the toughest decision of his life: either fight a messy court battle in order to keep her, or release her to real flesh-and-blood relatives–people she doesn’t even know.
The day of the big sailing race against South Bay arrives, and the Baywatch team is working like a well-oiled machine. However, as they are making a turn, the wind suddenly picks up, and the boom of the sail knocks CJ into the water. She is too stunned to grab on to a lifebuoy, so someone must go in after CJ. Neely is the nearest person to her, and now must decide what is more important–saving the life of someone she dislikes, or winning the race at all costs.
