We are on Kauai. Three teenage couples (RODD and MARGARET, TIM and CORY, and LEO and DANA) are out for a day of rigorous kayaking. After much fun, they head for shore and are caught in a number of swells. The wind and currents now work against them. They soon realize they are in big trouble. Rodd and Margaret are dumped into the water first, followed by Leo and Dana. Finally, Tim and Cory tip over. Leo swims to save Dana while Tim swims in to the shore. He takes off his life vest, which is a big mistake as now he can’t swim back to his mates and has trouble making it to shore.
Nevertheless, he makes it. There’s no one on the beach, so he is forced to climb a cliff. He is not good at climbing and is soon exhausted. He doesn’t see any of his friends. He trips and tumbles down the cliff, landing near a small beach. He sees a 4X4 driving by and stops them.
At Haleiwa, Sean gets the call. Everyone springs to alert. Mitch is concerned that the team might not be ready, but Sean assures him they will be fine. The team straps on its armaments.
The Baywatch team arrives on the Na Pali Coast, where a Coast Guard chopper and a scarab are waiting. JD, under Sean’s direction, climbs a cliff to set up a radio relay. Jessie, Sean, Jason and Kekoa are on jetskis, while Allie is in the Zodiac with Coast Guard rescuers Syd and Bobby Boy. They form team one. Sean and Kekoa are team two, while Jessie and Jason are the third team. Sean gives Allie a video camera to use to examine the coast. Because the camera is sensitive to infrared light, he feels they will have a better chance of finding the kids. There are no signs of survivors. Sean and Kekoa explore one of the caves surrounding the shore and find Dana. In concert with Jason, they use a combination of jet skis and sleds to bring her out of the cave.
The Coast Guard helicopter spots Leo and Cory caught on a precarious ledge in “the Do-nut.” Cory has been hit in the head and passes out. The chopper cannot rescue them and the sun is going down. Sean and Kekoa, using the helicopter and some other vessels, are able to rescue them just before Cory slips from Leo’s grasp. Rodd and Margaret are still missing, but the sun is going down and time is slipping away. Using night goggles, the Coast Guard patrols the shores but see nothing. This is because Rodd and Margaret are stuck in a cave. Margaret tries to swim out, but a wave knocks her down and she and Rodd are pushed into an interior cave.
Allie and Jason see the parents of the missing couple are distraught and understand their anguish. Sean wants to continue the search. Allie at first protests since it is night time and visibility is limited. Sean knows that if they do not act right away, the couple’s chances for survival are minimal. The team is in wholehearted agreement with him and they decide to continue the search. First, they look at the video to see if it has any clues. There is a slight flash, which they realize is a human hand. The team realizes it will need to go into the caves of Na Pali at night, a very dangerous undertaking. They bring along an assortment of high-end equipment.
Rodd and Margaret think they hear something: it is Sean using an air horn. They then see the light he is carrying, but he goes past them. They call out and JD responds, telling them not to worry. Allie, though, is concerned because she sees a shark fin in the wa-ter-and sharks will be attracted by the lights Sean is stringing up. In a race against time, Sean finds the couple and rescues them. As he is bringing them out of the cave, Rodd sees the shark. Using the jet skis and rafts, the team is able to bring the couple out to safety.
The grateful parents of the rescued teens offer to send the lifeguard team on an all-expenses paid vacation. At first, Sean refuses, but realizes the team needs a break after all the good work they have done.
