Michael Bergin talks about ‘After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,’ and real estate

Actor, model, and realtor Michael Bergin (“Baywatch”) chatted about being a part of the new Hulu docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,” and his real estate business.

John D. Rockefeller once said: “If you want to succeed you should strike out on new paths, rather than travel the worn paths of accepted success.” This quote applies to Michael Bergin, a true renaissance man, who has made a name for himself in the worlds of acting, modeling, and real estate.

New docuseries on Hulu

On being a part of “After Baywatch,” he said, “It was really cool, actually. We did an interview a while back and it was great to see it come together. I was excited to see a lot of the cast members; it’s a great bunch of people with big hearts.”

Working with Matthew Felker

Bergin had great words about working with director Matthew Felker. “Matt is great. We’ve become friends,” he said. “Recently, his wife, Liz, got her real estate license and she joined my real estate team.

“I’ve been out of the spotlight for a while, and that’s because I chose to be out of it,” he admitted. “I’ve been doing real estate now for the past 15 years, and I am not much into the acting world anymore. My real estate team is growing, and it is really awesome to work side by side with my wife, Joy, who I love.”

“This documentary made me realize how fortunate I was just being on the show,” he said. “I was on the show for four years (two years in Los Angeles and two years in Hawaii), and it was four of the best years of my life.”

Bergin praised Alexandra Paul for being one of his favorite people in the whole world. “Alexandra is amazing,” he exclaimed. “Michael Newman is another great guy and a very talented man. Everybody in the cast was incredible.”

‘Baywatch’ theme song

Bergin expressed his affinity for the “Baywatch” theme song “I’m Always Here” by Jimi Jamison. “I love that song… you can never get sick of that song,” he exclaimed

‘Passions’

Bergin recalled being a part of the ’00s NBC daytime drama “Passions.” “‘Passions’ was a great experience,” he admitted.

“I played a bad guy for two months and I have to say, I give soap actors so much credit,” he said. “I appreciate them so much. It was so challenging for me to remember all that dialogue. I had to remember all those lines, but it was such an amazing experience.”

“The actors work so hard on the soap operas. One of my best friends to this day, James Hyde, was on that show,” he added.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said with a sweet laugh, “Survival.”

“Things are good. I am happy; I love my kids. I have two kids, one is a professional baseball player for the Miami Marlins, and my daughter is beautiful, and she is her junior year in college,” he said.

Superpower of choice

If he were to have any superpower, it would be “strength.”

“My cardio involves walking five miles a day, and I go to the gym and life weights,” he said. “I am still pretty strong, but I can’t do the things that I used to do such as play basketball, go for a jog, or a run due to my bad knees and ankles.”

Success

On his definition of the word success, Bergin said, “Success means everything to me. If I don’t achieve success, then I’m not trying hard enough.”

Bergin continued, “I always said I was the worst model in the world because I was so nervous and shy in front of the camera, but I had a lot of success, and I am proud of that, especially since I had a fear to overcome.”

“That’s why I wanted to get into acting… because if I was more animated in front of the camera, I would be more comfortable instead of trying to pose in front of the camera,” he explained.

“I am also proud of myself for getting into the real estate field, which I started in 2009,” he said. “Now, 15 years later, I have a large real estate team, and I am pretty successful. When I think of success, now, it makes me think of modeling, acting, and real estate.”

Message for his fans and supporters

For his fans, he said, “I miss you guys. I miss your letters, love letters, and notes. I appreciate all of you for watching and supporting all those years.”

Closing thoughts on the Hulu documentary series

Bergin remarked about the new docuseries, “People remembering the show and the incredible cast members, staff, directors, producers, and all the wonderful helpers.”

“It is good all these years later for ‘Baywatch’ to come back and for people to remember the show, or for people to be introduced to the show (that didn’t know about it) and find out what it’s all about.”
