May 1998 – Sunday World
One of TV’s most eligible bachelors – hunky David Hasselhoff as Captain Mitch Buchannon of Baywatch – gets married in the world’s most watched TV show. But he starts a new series by promptly getting divorced again! Insiders say there are two reasons for Mitch’s sudden and sensational split from new bride, conniving beauty Neely Capshaw, played by blonde Gena Lee Nolin:
David, a top producer on the sand ‘n’ surf series, is afraid that a lengthy on-screen ‘marriage’ would upset his real wife of eight years, blonde Pamela Bach.
Fans of the hit show would lose interest in Mitch if he wasn’t free to pursue other romances in between his dramatic sea rescues
Mitch’s marriage to Neely was a big event in the series, with the cast travelling to Alaska. The romantic wedding was held aboard a cruise ship for a two part special. But when a new Baywatch series starts shooting this summer, insiders say the first episode will show Mitch and Neely splitting up. David is said to have asked the show’s writers to destroy his ‘marriage’. They have come up with the idea that the captain of the ship who married the couple wasn’t legally qualified to perform the ceremony. Mitch becomes suspicious of Neely’s reasons for marrying him. And he realises it was just her baby he really loved.
