aroline returns to Baywatch after auditioning for the soap opera, Shannon’s Hope in New York. Discouraged with her acting career she tries to discover what she really wants. JD is staying with Cody and Caroline while looking for a place of his own. He offers to help Caroline with her acting by doing a scene with her. JD confides to Caroline that he believes that if you fail at your dream, you must try again. During the practice scene JD kisses Caroline leaving her to wonder if he was acting or if it was real.

Love is taking all sorts of turns at Baywatch…Cody discovers that Lani spends her evenings in a club as Kyla, a dancer. Lani is embarrassed, but Cody thinks what she’s doing is great. Donna continues her pursuit of JD, but he doesn’t seem interested. Newman is very happy with his new girlfriend, Chantal.

All of these private things are being distorted and heard by the public because of a reporter named Riptide Roger Peltyn. Somehow Riptide knows all about the private lives of the lifeguards, leaving everyone wondering who the leak is. When Riptide’s helecopter appears at the scene of a sailboat accident hindering the lifeguard’s actions, Mitch has him kicked off the air. But the very next day, he is back on a cable channel. Once again, Riptide causes trouble for the lifeguards as he zooms in on a shark sighting sending his cameraman falling into the water below. In an attempt to help, Riptide crashes his helicopter in the water. The lifeguards come to his rescue and once on shore Chantal comes rushing up to Riptide. She was a fake all along. Newman, without even knowing it, was the leak!
