Out of the Blue

Mitch tells Jordan that a private investigator has been searching for her at the request of her biological mother. Jordan talks of her adoption and says that she does not want to meet a woman who gave her away. Mitch asks Jordan to reconsider and the next day he takes her fishing so they can talk. On the boat Mitch reveals that he told Jordan’s mother to meet them. Jordan looks around for a woman who resembles her, but doesn’t see anyone. From the other side of the boat a woman approaches them and introduces herself as Rena Jaffe, Jordan’s biological mother. Jordan is very confused because Rena is white. Rena explains how she didn’t want to give Jordan away, but Jordan’s father was killed in war and Rena’s parents would not accept a black baby. Rena only looked for Jordan now because she has developed a hereditary fatal disease and she needs to warn her daughter. Jordan overlooks her anger and the two share an emotional moment. Jordan’s emotions run even higher when an unusually large wave, created by seismic activity beneath the continental shelf, knocks the fishing boat over and Rena is caught inside. Jordan struggles to save her mother.

Caroline and JD spend an evening together sailing. The seismic activity also capsizes them and the boat’s mast begins to topple, heading straight for Caroline. JD quickly pulls her out of harms way. Later, JD finds Caroline crying. Their relationship gets even closer as he holds and comforts her. He takes her in his arms and they share a passionate kiss. Caroline is ready to get seriously involved when her agent calls from New York and tells her that the show she auditioned for wants her. It is hard to leave JD, but Caroline feels she must follow her dream.
