Mitch and Stephanie rediscover their feelings for each other when they work a 24-hour Call Car shift, while Hobie gets talked into throwing a party at home while Mitch is away.
When Mitch has to work a 24-hour shift in a Call Car–an emergency vehicle designed to respond to crises before paramedics arrive–he entrusts 14-year old Hobie with the responsibility of taking care of himself during that time.
However, when watching hang gliders at Point Furman Bluffs with his friend Kenny, Hobie is taken with a beautiful young girl, Wendie. Though she is slightly older than him, Hobie musters the courage to introduce himself and show off his skimboard. To Kenny’s surprise, Wendie seems attracted to Hobie as well. Kenny suggests they have a “get-together” with Wendie and her friends at Mitch’s house, and against his better judgement, Hobie agrees. Unfortunately, the “get- together” ends up becoming a huge party, and to make matters worse, Mitch’s hang glider is stolen.
Meanwhile, as Mitch and Stephanie continue to assist various victims on and near the beach, they realize they not only make a great team professionally, but that they are still interested in renewing their personal relationship with each other. However, their attempt to do so is cut short when they are called to rescue two trapped hang gliders who are holding on for their lives above the rocks at Point Furman.
When they arrive to rescue them, Mitch is stunned to discover that one of the trapped hang gliders is Hobie.
