CJ and Matt are shocked when a homeless man they rescue from under a tower turns out to be former lifeguard John Cort, whose eyesight has gotten worse. Meanwhile, Hobie befriends a young boy with leukemia who desperately needs a bone marrow transplant, but his brother has disappeared.
Matt and CJ are driving down the beach when CJ spots a homeless man out cold underneath her tower. When they go to help, they are shocked to discover that the man is none other than John D. Cort, CI’s former boyfriend and former Baywatch lifeguard who had to resign due to RP, a degenerative eye disease. CJ and Matt take Cort back to headquarters, where they learn that Cort has almost completely lost his eyesight and has been living on the streets for the past few months.
Meanwhile, Kaye Morgan introduces Nicholas Campbell to Mitch. Nicholas is an 11-year old boy with leukemia, who desperately needs a bone marrow transplant. As Nicholas goes swimming in the surf, Kaye tells Mitch that Nicholas’ only possible marrow donor is an older brother, Jamie. Jamie owns a deepsea salvaging company in San Pedro, but he has disappeared. Hobie befriends Nicholas and teaches him to surf while Mitch and Cort attempt to track down Jamie.
Unbeknownst to them, Jamie and his wife Anna have been kidnapped by Diederick, a drug runner who has forced them to deep sea dive for a lost shipment of cocaine. Every day that Jamie is gone, Nicholas gets weaker and weaker, until the doctors announce that Nicholas only has 48 hours to live. Thinking that Mitch and Cort will not be able to find Jamie in time, Nicholas sneaks out to surf one last time. However, he is so weak, he goes under. Now, the pressure is on to save both Nicholas and Jamie.
