At Baywatch’s annual Father/Son Junior Lifeguard Competition, Matt befriends a young boy who si embarrassed by the unexpected appearance of his father, who is a dwarf. Meanwhile, Stephanie attempts to reassign Logan to another beach after Caroline misses a rescue due to her infatuation with him.
Carter McKay has recently moved to Southern California, and when Hobie takes him to the beach for the first time, he is asked by Hobie’s friends whether he and his father will participate in the annual Baywatch Father/Son Junior Lifeguard Competition. Carter hesitates, then says that his father is a phenomenal all-around athlete who can’t make it due to his involvement in other sports events. In reality, Carter’s father–whom he has just met for the first time after is mother’s death–is a dwarf.
Matt offers to be Carter’s partner in the competition, but when that day arrives, Carter’s father, Simon, unexpectedly shows up to participate. Carter is furious and embarrassed, and tries to head off Simon before he can be seen by Carter’s friends. Observing from a distance, Matt puts two and two together, and realizesthat Simon is Carter’s father. When Matt gently confronts Carter about this, Carter admits just how ashamed he is that his father is so little. Simon, eavesdropping around the corner, is cut to the heart by Carter’s words.
At her tower, Caroline is not watching the water, but Logan instead. As a result, she misses a rescue, which nearly results in a drowning. Stephanie, in an attempt to help out her younger sister, reassigns Logan to another beach. Logan threatens to sue Baywatch for discrimination, until Mitch steps in and convinces Stephanie that her actions are actually doing more harm than good. Caroline and Logan will just have to learn to work together.
Later, Simon, feeling abandoned by his son, is walking along the beach at the end of the day when he spots a little girl calling for help. Her dog is drowning out in the water. Simon attempts to raft out to help, but loses his balance and falls into the water. Since most dwarves have no bouyancy, Simon immediately sinks to the bottom. Now, Carter realizes how much he really loves his father, but he may not get the chance to tell him unless Mitch and Matt can save him in time.
