Abeautiful woman and her plain sister compete for Mitch’s affection with perilous results. Meanwhile, Matt confronts his paralyzing fear of sharks.
Matt’s recurring nightmare of being attacked by a great white shark leads him to confide his fears to Summer. Her analysis–Matt’s really afraid of their relationship and the commitment thatgoes with it. Matt’s not sure if she’s correct, but his terrifying nightmares continue and they involve both Matt and Summer being attacked. Later, on a routine buoy placement exercise, Matt and Summer come face-to-face with a great white, only this time it’s not a dream!
When “plain Jane” Midwesterner, Gwen, arrives at Mitch’s tower, hardly anyone notices her. However, she notices Mitch and spends the afternoon watching him and making awkward conversation. When she returns to her trailer parked nearby, her sister Mattie scolds her for being less savvy with men, and approaches Mitch’s tower with all the confidence and sex appeal of a bona fide starlet. Mitch instantly takes a liking to Mattie, and accepts her invitation to dinner the next night in the trailer in which the sisters are traveling. Before dinner, Mitch accepts a glass of wine and passes out. He’s been drugged.
Mitch awakens to find himself chained to the wall of a basement that is rapidly flooding with water. Mattie hovers over him menacingly, unwilling to free him, and seeming to take pleasure in his eminent demise. Suddenly, Gwen arrives and Mitch hears the two of them arguing. Mitch cries out for Gwen to help him, but only Mattie appears, and with the water only inches from covering him completely, Mitch’s time is running out. Mitch has got to have Gwen’s help if he is to escape. He pleads desperately with Mattie to let him speak with Gwen, but she refuses. Finally, with only seconds before he is totally submersed, Mitch breaks Mattie’s hard exterior, revealing the sister’s startling secret and giving him a chance to escape.
