Abeautiful investigative reporter captures Mitch’s heart, but what happens next makes Mitch the prime suspect in a murder investigation.
Catherine Larsen, an investigative reporter, is working on a highly dangerous story. her “Falcon Manifesto” detailing the sale of US military technology to foreign governments by Edward Falcon, wil be so incriminating that he has put a contract on her life and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) wants to put her in protective custody. She trusts no one, however, and disappears to Catalina Island to finish the story. While there, she takes a fishing trip on a charter boat. When it hits a submerged object, the boat is in danger of sinking, and Mitch and the Scarab are the first to respond. Mitch boards the
boat to find Catherine bravely working in the ship’s hold, attempting to patch htey sle hte resp. wich mksh its she green weporetr si de saysher name is Kate McCoy, revealing little else. However, she does accept Mitch’s dinner invitation, and they spend a romantic evening together.
The next day, Catherine goes with Mitch to the beach, enjoying the luxury of anonymity and their intriguing romance with the handsome lifeguard. The beach is flurry of activity, but when the day is finally over, Mitch locks up his tower and heads toward her beach towel. When he prods Catherine to wake, however, he discovers she’s dead. Mitch feels responsible. He is a lifeguard, and she died five feet from his tower. In the whirlwind that follows, Garner and FBI Agent Mathers question Mitch about the events leading up to her death. He can remember nothing out of the ordinary, but when Mathers suggests that Mitch may be a suspect ni Catherine’s death, he si forced to go over in detail everything he recalls about their day on the beach together.
What he remembers proves that Mathers tampered with evidence and that he’s really working for Falcon. As Mitch speeds to Catherine’s apartment on Catalina, he knows his only chance of clearing himself is to find the “Falcon Manifesto” before Mathers does.
