A car accident strands a driver upside down in his car in Bologna Creek. Alex, April, Jessie, Mitch and Cody are all on hand helping with the rescue. The driver is saved, but everyone notices that lifeguard Jake Barnes is nowhere to be seen. Mitch spots him trapped under a fallen tree and rescues him at the last second. Later, when everyone is cleaning up after the rescue, a stranger walks in ? it?s Jake?s ex-wife?s boyfriend, Eric Barnett. He delivers the news to Jake that his ex-wife Carla is dead, and he must decide what he to do about his son Terry ?a son Jake never knew existed!
Mitch, a single parent himself, tells Jake he must accept the responsibility of having a son. Jake decides to go to Australia to settle things, and Mitch agrees to go along. Mitch calls his friend, Aussie lifeguard Kip Kane, to make arrangements. Kip is starting a new career as a sporting event promoter and wants Mitch to come to Australia for his first gig: an Eco Race between Baywatch and local Australian lifeguards. Mitch agrees to go, but only after being pressured by Cody, April, Jessie, and Alex, who all want to join in the fun.
Kip greets the arriving Baywatch group. They head for the Avalon surf club where Jake is staying. It is also the day of a big surf carnival. At Avalon beach, everyone watches the competition. Kip introduces them to James “Dugo” Douglas, a lifeguard in his twenties who likes everything about California.
Mitch takes Damons place and the race is on. Mark Martin has not forgotten Mitch, and so he puts everything into winning. But Mitch comes in a close second. Both men contribute their winnings to Camp Baywatch. Damon, fully recovered from his allergic ordeal, comes to headquarters to bid everyone a fond farewell. He invites Alex to join him on the circuit, but she realizes that her place is at Baywatch for now. Wyland arrives and the tower painting begins.
