Stephanie and Cody tangle with drug runners, and when one of them is trapped underwater, Cody free dives to rescue her. His heroism results in a deadly case of the “bends,” Cody’s life and his Olympic dreams hanging in the balance. Meanwhile, when personal items turn up missing at headquarters, it becomes Newman’s mission in life to capture the rodent responsible.
Stephanie is training Cody in underwater search-and-rescue techniques, and while doing so, Cody finds a Spanish doubloon. Unbeknownst to them, a pair of drug runners has dropped a shipment of cocaine in a storage pod nearby in order to avoid being caught by the Coast Guard. Later, Cody has the doubloon appraised and the antique shop owners offers Cody $3000. Believing that the doubloon may have come from buried treasure in a shipwrecked Spanish galleon, Cody begs Stephanie to let him return to the site once more. Stephanie, concerned that Cody’s time is being diverted from his Olympic training, reluctantly agrees to accompany him..
Back at headquarters, different personal items have come up missing – Neely’s turquoise necklace, Cody’s hairbrush and, most importantly, Newman’s prize watch. The Baywatch lifeguards are convinced there is a thief in their midst, and just when everyone is about to point fingers at each other, a scream erupts from the weight room. Neely has discovered a pack rat on the loose, with Newman’s watch in his mouth, no less. The Baywatch lifeguards have found the real culprit, but catching it and retrieving their stuff becomes Newman’s ultimate challenge.
The next day, Stephanie and Cody return to where the doubloon was found. Unfortunately, they discover the drugs the drug runners left behind. Stephanie and Cody are ambushed underwater, and in the fracas, one of the drug runners is injured and sinks deeper down. When the other escapes, Cody insists on free diving to save the trapped criminal, despite the fact that she’s over 75 feet below. In the process, Cody saves her but develops a deadly case of the bends. If Stephanie can’t get him to a hyperbaric chamber fast enough, Cody will die within minutes.
