Kaye Morgan recruits Hobie to volunteer at a school for the blind, but disaster strikes when a huge brushfire roars through Topanga Canyon, trapping Hobie and the kids between walls of flame and toxic smoke.
Kaye Morgan has started volunteering at the Malibu School for the Blind, and asks Hobie if he’d like to teach the kids surfing, as well as help out on the occasional field trip. He eagerly complies. After spending time with the kids at the b each, Hobie joins Kaye and the kids back at the school, which is located in Topanga Canyon, not far from the beach. However, disaster is waiting to strike.
A shattered bottle thrown from a passing car serves to ignite the dry brush, and the winds carry the fire to a tank filled with toxic chemicals. The tank explodes from the scorching heat, and the heavy winds carry a cloud of toxic smoke down to the beach, choking unsuspecting beachgoers. In addition, a huge wall of fire blows through the canyon, threatening hundreds of homes. A huge rescue effort is underway, including numerous fire departments and Baywatch. Mitch and the Baywatch lifeguard s attempt to clear the beach before anyone is hurt or even killed. However, what Mitch and the lifeguards don’t realize is that the Malibu School for the Blind is smack in the middle of the fire’s destructive path through the canyon and Hobie and some of the blind kids are out in the woods on a hike.
On the hike, Hobie and the kids start to find themselves becoming walled in by the fire. The situation is worsened when one of the blind children is paralyzed with fear, since he lost his sight in a fire. Hobie attempts to keep them safe and calm, but time is running out. Now, it is up to Mitch to mount a daring rescue through the flames to save them.
