We are in Hawaii. Mitch is on the beach, where he witnesses a family washed off the rocks. Mitch immediately reverts to lifeguard mode and pulls them from the water. He finds the daughter unconscious and rescues her too. She resumes breathing, but is still taken to hospital in a coma.
At a small beach house, a local lifeguard, Kelelie Rock Keaweamahi, visits Mitch. Rock senses that something is wrong. Mitch feels disappointed that the girl he rescued is still in hospital.
The next morning, Mitch goes to see Rock at the lifeguard station at Haleiwa. He tells Rock about his idea: to create an international training camp for lifeguards, a “Top Gun” school to share ideas and techniques. They decide Hawaii would be the ideal location. It has huge waves, sharp reefs, and a whole host of difficult conditions. They will be bringing people in from around the world, including Allie from Australia; another kid from Galveston, Jason; and Jessie and JD from Baywatch. They decide that Sean Monroe would be perfect to lead the group.
JD is excited about the potential mission; Jessie is less so because she had planned on devoting her time to training for the Ironman Triathlon. JD reminds her that the Triathlon is held in Hawaii every year. Besides, Hawaii is the honeymoon capital of the world…
Next, we meet Allie, who receives a package from Mitch containing a swim suit with the Baywatch Hawaii logo on it, and an invitation to join them in their new adventure.
Back in town, Mitch goes to visit the girl in hospital, whose name is “Hina”. He sees the girl’s father maintaining his vigil. Her father is sure she will survive, and invites Mitch to be at her next birthday party.
The remainder of the team arrive in Honolulu. Jason (the young kid from Texas) meets Allie and is instantly smitten, although she realizes she is too old for him. JD and Jessie arrive and soon, everyone is crammed into the car, heading to Haleiwa.
JD runs through the dorm rooms, looking for Jessie. He opens the door and inadvertently catches Kekoa Tanaka, half dressed. There is an immediate spark between the two of them.
Jessie arrives on the beach and kisses JD. She sees that his attention is somewhere else-Kekoa. Jessie knows she is in for some competition.
At the first meeting, Sean explains what their mission will be and how dangerous the Hawaii surf is. Finally, he lets everyone know that no one has a definite job yet. There are four open slots, but five candidates. One of them will be eliminated. Each of the lifeguards is determined not to be the one who is eliminated.
Hina’s family comes to visit Mitch. Hina has recovered fully. They present him with a lei made out of feathers. They promise to protect him forever for saving their daughter. A tearful Mitch feels this is the best thanks he has ever received.
