Jason sends Sean to the Big Island to bring back a canoe. Once Jason is there, he realizes he is expected to build a canoe, with the help of KUMU PONO, a great canoe builder, and a GIRL who turns out to be Kumu’s granddaughter. Although he is resentful at first, Jason learns patience and the beauty of process. Meanwhile, Sean, Jenna and Dawn perform a daring double rescue which starts with helping a man who had a heart attack. They learn he had the attack because, while traveling on a glass-bottomed sub, he saw a couple trapped in some wreckage. Sean, Jenna and Dawn are able to save the couple. Later, as Jenna flirts with Sean, she calmly announces she plans to “consolidate” the team with the North Shore lifeguards! Sean flies into a rage, telling her she will never take his team away from him.
