When former prep basketball standout Tito Washburn is found dead on Venice Beach, the apparent victim of an accidental drowning, his old friend Garner suspects foul play. Ahunch leads him to the Venice Basketball courts where street hoopsters and some unscrupulous gamblers compete for high stakes. Attempting an unorthodox undercover operation, Garner recruits the tall, but not particularly basketball-gifted, Mitch Buchannon. However, as they play various opponents and uncover the people involved with Tito’s murder, they find themselves on an incredible win streak under the hoops.

A comedy of errors ensues as Dennis wines and dines CJ while juggling the attention between his unsuspecting wife and the innocent lifeguard.
