Sharks Cove

Written by Deborah Bonann Schwartz & Douglas Schwartz

Abeautiful Olympic hopeful disappears after a savage shark attack and Eddie’s brother Bobby arrives for a weekend visit.
Debbie Kent swims with Shauni at UCLA, where Debbie is in training for the Olympics. But even excellent times and hard work aren’t enough for Debbie’s demanding father. Disappointed with her times, Mr. Kent grounds Debbie and refuses to let her see Zach, her surfer boyfriend. Disobeying her father’s wishes, Debbie and Zach have a beach party that night. When they go for a romantic swim, Debbie suddenly disappears. Afterfrantically searching for her, Zach swims back to the beach screaming “Shark! Shark!”

When Debbie’s shredded swimsuit floats ashore and no body can be found, Mitch is forced to close down the beach. Shark attacks are rare, but one and the same area ten years ago earned this particular stretch of beach the name “Shark’s Cove.” Grief-stricken at the sudden loss of a good friend, Shauni sets out to investigate Debbie’s disappearance. When she and Harvey find scuba gear attached to a buoy near the sight of the shark attack, Shauni suspects foul play. Only her determination to find the truth can clear up the mystery.

Orphaned at an early age, Eddie’s only living relative is an older half- brother who Eddie hasn’t seen in years. They last saw each other when Bobby was a teenager, just before he was committed for schizophrenia. Though Bobby lives in a group home in the California mountains, Eddie h a s avoided visiting him. When he tells Shauni about Bobby, she is very understanding and urges Eddie to visit him at the ranch. Bobby, who has the body of an adult but the personality of a child is thrilled to see Eddie and Shauni. At his doctor’s behest, Bobby is allowed to visit them for the weekend. Bobby’s visit is a study in courage for Eddie, as the brother he once viewed as his hero now worships him. Their weekend
is both emotional and comic as two brothers rediscover each other.
