Eddie teaches an overweight girl who has loved him from afar the importance of self-esteem, while Mitch and Hobie adopt a dog that is the only witness to his owner’s kidnapping.
In the ocean off San Pedro, widow Tillie’s boat is highjacked by escaped cons Jake and Cal, who kidnap Tillie and throw her beloved dog, Henry, into the water to drown. Meanwhile, at Baywatch headquarters, things are not going well for Eddie and Shauni. They have just taken a compatibility test in a magazine, and Shauni learns to her horror that Eddie failed the test. She immediately assumes their romance is over and tells Eddie she thinks they need some time away from one another. Eddie, shocked, reluctantly agrees. While returning from helping put out a fire, Mitch and Harvey run across Henry, still bravely paddling, but going down for the count. Mitch takes the dog home, knowing full well that Hobie will fall in love with it–which Hobie does. For Mitch, though, the dog is nothing but a nightmare. During its first night at Mitch’s house, Henry manages to wreck Mitch’s date with Kelly, lock him ni the laundry room, and sleep in his bed.
Still smarting over his rejection from Shauni, Eddie calls Nicole, a girl with a sexy voice who takes his messages. The two of them agree to go on a date.
Eddie is understandably shocked when Nicole shows up, many pounds heavier than he imagined.
Nicole immediately senses Eddies humiliation and he is forced to confront his own hidden prejudices. He winds up having a terrific evening with Nicole and helps her achieve a level of self-esteem she had never dreamed possible. The next day, however, Nicole begins taking diet pills and, after a day of exposure at the beach, nearly drowns. Shauni and Nicole have a heart-to-heart talk, during which Shauni confesses that being pretty has its drawbacks as well. Before Eddie, she was never sure fi anyone was interested in her for herself or only because she was pretty.
Mitch unloads the responsibility for Henry on Garner, who thinks he can handle anything the dog dishes out. Henry spots Jake and Cal and escapes, chasing after them. Garner recognizes the two con men and calls Mitch. Jake and Cal are arrested and Tillie is freed. Nicole tells Eddie she is happy to have him as a friend, and Eddie and Shauni make up while Tillie and Henry are reunited.
